Three Construction Workers Injured After Partial Building Collapse in Wilmington, DE

A building under construction partially collapsed in Wilmington, Delaware, sending three construction workers to the hospital with injuries. The collapse occurred shortly after 9:45 a.m. on Friday, March 8th. The second floor of the building collapsed as the workers were pouring the concrete floors for a six-story building scheduled to open this summer. Emergency responders were involved in the rescue effort. New Castle County Paramedics reported that a 48-year-old man and a 68-year-old man were taken to Christiana Hospital with possible head injuries, while a 31-year-old man was transported to Wilmington Hospital. Investigations are underway to evaluate the stability of the remaining structure and determine the cause of the collapse.

Owners, managers, builders, engineers, and inspectors must adhere to strict construction standards—especially during the building phase. The planning, details, sequencing, and methods of construction must be carefully planned and executed to ensure safety on the jobsite. When these details are not carefully planned and executed, catastrophic harm results causing needless injuries and death. Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky has represented catastrophically injured clients when buildings have collapsed, including the Davenport, Iowa apartment collapse in 2023, the Surfside Condo collapse in Miami in 2021, the Market Street collapse in Philadelphia in 2013, and the Tropicana garage collapse in New Jersey in 2003.

The building collapse attorneys at Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky are standing by and available for commentary as the situation develops.
