Emily Grubb Coffing

Associate

Emily’s focus on advocacy and fighting for the rights and needs of others started as a teenager. She discovered her passion for trial advocacy through her high school’s mock trial program and never turned back. Emily later earned a position on the trial team at Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law to further develop her trial advocacy skills. She also served as a teaching assistant for the Introduction to Trial Advocacy course. While at Drexel, Emily interned with the civil division of the United States Attorneys’ Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where she assisted US Attorneys through the full spectrum of the litigation process and co-authored an article on the Federal Tort Claims Act for the Department of Justice’s Journal. While in law school, Emily received a 2023-2024 Ms. JD Fellowship, joining a community committed to the success of aspiring and early-career women lawyers. Emily joined Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky as a law clerk in 2023. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to assist in the recovery of millions of dollars for clients.

Emily has long sought to become a trial attorney and champion the rights of the severely injured. She represents catastrophically injured individuals and their families, and primarily represents victims of construction and design failures, workplace and industrial accidents, trucking accidents, auto and crashworthiness accidents, and accidents resulting from defective or malfunctioning products. Within her first month of returning to the firm full-time after graduating from law school, Emily was part of the trial team that secured a $9.1 million verdict for a golf professional who was killed by a tree that fell during a storm on a cart barn at the Montgomery County country club where he worked.

Prior to law school, Emily graduated from the University of Delaware in 2015 with an Honors Degree in International Relations (with concentrations in Diplomacy and Asian Studies) and Three Languages (Mandarin, Spanish, and Japanese). While managing her time and academic pursuits, Emily competed on the University of Delaware’s Collegiate Synchronized Skating Team from 2011-2015. She and her teammates were two-time National Silver-medalists.

Emily received a Fulbright Award to pursue her Master’s Degree in Asia-Pacific Studies at the National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan from 2015-2017. During this time, she worked closely alongside academics and Indigenous activists to study and negotiate co-management strategies for traditional territories on the island. Upon returning to the United States in 2017, Emily began working for Open Society Foundations (OSF), an international human rights non-profit organization. After leaving OSF, she joined the Diversity and Outreach team in the Office of Admissions at Miami University (Ohio), where she sought to break down barriers to higher education for historically marginalized and underrepresented students.

Emily lives in Philadelphia with her husband, Tyler, the Associate Head Swim Coach for PDR Swimming for Success, and their dog, Sully. When not serving her clients, Emily enjoys expanding her capacity through yoga, hiking, biking, and eating her way through Philadelphia’s vibrant food scene.
