PFAS Water Contamination Lawyers
Toxic “forever chemicals” known as PFAS have contaminated drinking water all over the country, affecting the water of tens of millions of people and causing serious injury to many who consumed it.
Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky PFAS lawyers has fought for decades on behalf of people hurt by the wrongdoing or negligence of companies whose chemicals contaminate our environment.
The water supply of over 100,000 residents in Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania was contaminated by polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as perflourinated chemicals (PFCs), due to the use of Fire-fighting foam (AFFF) at nearby military bases.
This group of dangerous forever chemicals includes PFOS and PFOA.
PFAS contamination affects the water quality for millions of Americans. We are committed to staying in the fight until we return local drinking water supplies to their clean and healthy original state.
What is PFAS?
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, are a group of man-made chemicals used in various products. Known for their resistance to heat, water, and oil, PFAS chemicals are found in products like non-stick cookware, firefighting foam, and water-repellent fabrics. Despite their usefulness, they pose significant health risks.
The Danger of PFAS Chemicals
PFAS chemicals are notorious for their persistence in the environment and the human body. They don’t break down and can accumulate over time, leading to serious health problems. Studies link PFAS exposure to cancers and other serious injuries..
How PFAS Contaminates Water
PFAS can seep into water supplies through industrial waste, landfill runoff, and firefighting activities. Once in the water, they are nearly impossible to remove with standard filtration methods, posing long-term risks to communities.
Environmental Impact of PFAS
Beyond human health, PFAS also devastates ecosystems. Contaminated water impacts wildlife, and the chemicals can travel up the food chain, impacting entire communities of animals and plants. The persistent nature of PFAS means that once the environment is contaminated, it remains so for generations.
Unmatched Experience
Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky represents individuals who have consumed PFAS contaminated water and who have developed serious injuries, firefighters who have used PFAS-containing firefighting foams and have developed serious injuries, and municipal entities whose water systems have been contaminated with PFAS.
Led by partners Larry Cohan and Josh Cohan, Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky represents victims of PFAS exposure who are suffering from the following injuries:
- Kidney cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Liver cancer
- Thyroid cancer
- Thyroid disease
- Ulcerative colitis
We pursue claims against the manufacturers of fire-fighting foam (AFFF) and PFAS chemicals.
Larry is one of a select group of attorneys appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee (PEC) in the Federal Court AFFF/PFAS Multi-District Litigation (MDL) in South Carolina and Josh currently sits on two leadership committees in the ongoing MDL. This litigation includes thousands of lawsuits that were originally filed across the country against the 3M Company, Dupont, and other manufacturers seeking damages for the widespread harm caused by the use of PFAS in firefighting foam (AFFF). Mr. Cohan also serves on the executive committee for the class action lawsuit for medical monitoring on behalf of Bucks and Montgomery County residents affected by PFAS contamination in their water.
Unmatched Compensation
As it has become clear that there is a probable link between PFAS exposure and kidney cancer, thyroid disease, thyroid cancer, liver cancer, testicular cancer, and ulcerative colitis, Larry Cohan and Josh Cohan have responded by fighting on behalf of people who have been injured and public water providers who have been harmed, advocating for clean water for all of us, and ensuring the companies who polluted our water and sold dangerous products are held accountable.
In fact, Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky partners are proud to serve on the AFFF/PFAS MDL PEC, which recently was able to reach historic settlements on behalf of water providers around the country whose water systems became contaminated with PFAS chemicals. Recent settlements reached in the AFFF/PFAS MDL on behalf of public water providers include:
- $12.5 Billion Settlement with 3M Company
- $1.185 Billion Settlement with Dupont, Chemours, Corteva
- $750 Million Settlement with Tyco Fire Products LP
- $316.5 Million Settlement with BASF Corporation
The settlement reached with 3M was the largest water contamination settlement in United States history.
Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky is committed to obtaining the results you need and deserve.
At the present time, Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky is no longer accepting new cases on behalf of individuals who consumed PFAS-contaminated water and later developed one of the above listed injuries, pending further direction from the Court.
Litigation Update
The first personal injury trial in the AFFF/PFAS MDL was set to begin in October 2025 and was going to involve a Pennsylvania Plaintiff who had been diagnosed with kidney cancer after consuming PFAS contaminated water for decades. Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky attorneys Larry Cohan and Josh Cohan are part of the trial team that will be trying the first case in the country in the AFFF/PFAS MDL. However, the trial date was put on hold by the Cout and has not yet been rescheduled. We anticipate that the trial will be rescheduled in 2026.
Additionally, the AFFF/PFAS MDL saw a surge of new filings in August and September 2025. The litigation has been pending for years and up until recently, there were less than 20,000 filed cases. A recent rash of new legal filings, following the entry of a Court Order, has brought the total number of filed cases to well over 100,000. The Court recently placed a quasi-moratorium on new personal injury case filings, meaning that there are substantial additional barriers that potential Plaintiffs must face if they intend to pursue an AFFF/PFAS lawsuit after September 10, 2025.
