Lockport boat ride capsizes during cave tour, upstate NY

According to news outlets, a tour boat has capsized in a cave along the Erie Canal in Lockport, New York.

Crews are working to assist all parties safely out of the area.  It is unclear at this point whether any injuries were sustained, but up to 36 people were on board.

Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky has successfully litigated numerous catastrophic maritime and boating cases, including the 2018 Branson, Missouri Duck Boat disaster in which a tour boat sank during a storm, killing 17 and injuring 14, which settled for more than $150,000,000 on behalf of the Firm’s clients.  The Firm is currently co-lead counsel in the Conception Boat Fire disaster case, where 34 people died when a dive boat caught on fire off the coast of California over Labor Day Weekend in 2019.  Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky was also lead counsel in a New York case which involved the tragic death of three children in Oyster Bay Long Island when their boat sank following a 4th of July fireworks show.

It is crucial to have these cases investigated immediately to determine the cause of the event, to preserve critical evidence, and to prepare to defend against the unique legal defenses that can be used by vessel owners in maritime cases.  Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky has an extensive history of handling lawsuits in maritime and boating cases and holding the responsible parties accountable.
