Crane Collapse at Florida Construction Site Kills Two

The crane collapsed at the construction site for a new central Florida hospital.

Tragedy struck Merritt Island, Florida on June 4 when a giant crane collapsed at the construction site of the new Cape Canaveral Hospital, killing two workers in what officials are calling a “serious weather-related incident.” The crane crushed a work truck and damaged the site’s roof, prompting a large emergency response and an ongoing investigation. Work at the $410 million construction site has been suspended. Witnesses reported high winds in the area earlier that afternoon, and officials are working to determine what role the weather may have played.
