“Inside Edition:” Can a Popular Police Pistol Accidentally Fire Without a Trigger Pull?

“Inside Edition” investigates the Sig Sauer P320’s ‘unintentional discharge.’

The Sig Sauer P320 is a popular pistol among law enforcement. However, some cops say they have experienced what’s called an ‘unintentional discharge.’ In a lawsuit, Somerset, Maine Sheriff’s Deputy David Cole says he was shot in the leg in 2022 when his P320 suddenly went off while holstered without him touching the trigger. Sig Sauer, the manufacturer of the P320, denies Cole’s allegations, stating that the P320 “cannot, under any circumstances, discharge without a trigger pull.”

“Our office now represents over 100 victims who have been injured by the P320 without their fingers touching the trigger.”
