Construction Worker Killed in Center City Accident

A construction worker was killed on Wednesday morning, in an accident that occurred on a construction site located at 2330 Samson St., near Rittenhouse Square, in Center City Philadelphia.

The victim was identified as Siarhei Marhunou, who reportedly leaves behind a wife and a three month old child. The circumstances of Mr. Marhunou’s death remain unclear. The project involved the construction of five luxury townhomes, for developer, OCF Realty. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has begun an investigation into the accident.

While many safety improvements have been made in recent years which have greatly reduced the number of serious injuries and deaths among construction workers, all parties must remain vigilant and follow best practices to ensure that accidents on construction sites do not happen. In particular, falls are the leading cause of death on construction sites. In 2018, there were 320 fatal falls to a lower level out of 1,008 construction fatalities recorded by OSHA. With proper techniques, equipment and training, these deaths are preventable.

SMB has successfully handled more construction fall cases than any firm I the Philadelphia region. SMB is widely regarded as one of the best law firm in the United States for representing workers who have been injured or killed on the job. Known for winning tough, high-profile cases, SMB has an exceptional track record of championing the rights of injured victims, including injured construction workers and the families of workers who have been killed on the job.
