Robert Mongeluzzi Serving as Co-Counsel Duck Boat Disaster

Announcer: Live from Center City in Philadelphia, this is Fox 29 News at 6:00.

Anchor: A Duck boat crashed into several parked cars in Boston this afternoon. Five people were hurt in that accident. The good thing, we’re told their injuries are minor, but the general manager of Boston Duck Tours says the driver couldn’t stop because a radio became dislodged and then it rolled under the brake pedal, causing that problem.

We have some new developments in the deadly Duck boat disaster here in Philly last week. Local lawyer Robert Mongeluzzi will serve as co-counsel representing the two young Hungarians killed in the collision between the boat and that barge on the Delaware. He left today for Hungary to meet with the victims’ families.

Atty. Mongeluzzi: Whenever our children leave, the one thing that we all ask is that they come home safe and sound.

Anchor: And as we know, that did not happen here. The tugboat mate is refusing to talk to investigators now. Our Thomas Drayton spoke with a former tugboat worker who spent years on the Delaware.

Wally: What don’t sit with me is why the mate isn’t saying something. I mean, if it was a mistake, it was a mistake, but he should come about and let somebody know what happened. Let there be closure to the people that are all involved in it, especially the families. Let them have peace so they know what happened and maybe they can live on with it.

Anchor: Yeah, we all want to know what happened. That’s right. The future of the Duck boats on the Delaware certainly has a lot of you talking as well. Our My Fox Philly poll asks, “Would you ride the Duck boats again?” Text yes or no to 46373. Results so far show that 53% of you say yes, 47% say no.

You’re also weighing in on our Facebook fan page. Dan says it’s not yet time to see those Duck boats running again. He writes, “…not until they find out what happened, not just on their end, on the tugboat and tanker’s end. Shipping lanes are too busy in the summer season. I would not let my kids on a Duck boat at this point.” Roberto says, “Do we stop because an accident in a million happened? Do we stop flying after a plane goes down? Do we stop driving after an accident? The Duck boat was clearly not at fault here.”
