Temple University junior Jenna Nicole Burleigh was murdered on August 31, 2017 by Joshua Hupperterz, in his apartment near Pub Webb, the off-campus bar where they met and were served excessive amounts of alcohol. Earlier this year, Hupperterz was convicted by a Philadelphia jury of the strangulation killing and is now serving a life sentence. That ended the criminal case. The news conference Wednesday, at Saltz, Mongeluzzi & Bendesky, will focus on the next chapter in the Burleigh family’s tireless fight to obtain the full measure of justice for Jenna as they continue to “fight for what’s right” in honoring their daughter’s memory. Committed to social justice, particularly the plight of Philadelphia’s homeless, Jenna famously said, “l truly believe in the good in people and the magic that can be found in all of us. I will always fight for what’s right. I will always fight for equality for all.” Those words are included in every life-essentials backpack distributed by Jenna’s Blessing Bags, the foundation established by her family and friends in her honor (www.jennasblessingbags.org).
