Fans Topple After Railing Gives Way at FedEx Field

FedEx Field railing gave way and fans fell in a heap near Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts as he walked off the field after a 20-16 victory over the Washington Football Team on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

As Hurts was leaving the field at the visiting team’s exit tunnel and Eagles fans in attendance reached over the railing to congratulate the Eagles QB on his win.

As soon as Hurts started giving the fans high-fives, one of the side rails collapsed, and the fans tumbled onto the field and onto a nearby photographer.

Luckily, reports are that no one was hurt.

However, that is not always the case.  This incident shows just how lucky these fans were.

Saltz Mongeluzzi has represented catastrophically injured clients when a very similar issue occurred at Philly’s old Veterans Stadium during the annual 1998 Army-Navy game. There, two West Point cadets were seriously injured when the railing gave way during the fourth quarter.

Clearly, the construction and safety of stadiums should be taken very seriously because as we have seen in the past, situations like these can lead to permanent and catastrophic injuries.
