A Large Explosion and Multialarm Fire is On-Going at the Chemtool Chemical Plant in Rockton, Illinois

The explosion occurred at 7:00 am. Reports suggest a firefighter has been injured and all within a mile of the plant were evacuated. Heavy smoke is blanketing the area and the fire is still burning as of 12:00 p.m. CST.

Victims of this explosion include not just those directly injured by the blaze, but also those forced from their homes and workplaces for, as of yet, an indeterminant amount of time. The fire and smoke have made the air quality in the area unhealthy. Nearby residents should stay inside and monitor their respiratory health, particularly those who have pre-existing sensitivities.

It is still unknown what long-term impact if any, this explosion will have on the surrounding environment, air quality, and water sources. Residents should remain vigilant and report any issues to their local officials.

The workplace accident attorneys at Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky are standing by and available for commentary as the situation develops.
