An explosion at a U.S. Steel coking plant near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Monday, August 11, has killed one person, left two unaccounted for, and injured dozens. The blast sent thick black smoke over the Monongahela Valley and rattled buildings nearby. Witnesses described a thunder-like shockwave that shook scaffolding and buildings.
