Nine Injured in Escalator Fire at JFK International Airport

An escalator at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport caught fire Wednesday injuring nine and evacuating the terminal.

At least nine people were rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out at John F. Kennedy International Airport early Wednesday morning. An escalator in Terminal 8 reportedly caught fire causing more than 1,000 passengers to evacuate the airport. Early reports and videos show firefighters rushing to the scene to provide medical treatment and clear the smoke from the area. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey released a statement that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
