Eyedrops Recalled After Reports of Bacterial Infections, Vision Problems, and Blindness

Recently recalled eye drops, known as artificial tears, made by EzriCare and Delsam Pharma have been linked to serious bacterial infections that have caused vision problems, including total blindness. The use of these recalled eyedrops is also suspected to have caused at least three deaths in the US.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a nationwide outbreak of Carbapenem-Resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa (CRPA) associated with using EzriCare and Delsam Artificial Tears. These eyedrops can be purchased over the counter.  The manufacturer has issued a nationwide recall citing “potential microbial contamination.” To date, over 65 individuals are suspected to have suffered injury after using the recalled eyedrops. The product contamination is believed to have been caused by faulty packaging and the lack of proper preservatives.

The Mass Tort and Toxic Tort team at Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky is investigating cases on behalf of individuals who have suffered serious injuries from an infection, including total blindness, caused by the use of recalled Ezricare and Delsam Pharma artificial tears.
