Center City Building Partially Collapsed
A Center City building’s façade partially collapsed Wednesday striking a passing pedestrian. The woman was walking by the building at 201 South 13th Street when she was struck in the head by a concrete slab that fell off the building.
Police say the contractors were working on the building at the time the concrete fell. Philadelphia L&I was called on the scene to inspect. No other injuries were reported but the woman was taken to Jefferson University Hospital in critical but stable condition. So far, the cause of the partial collapse has not been revealed.
Many building residents in other collapses haven’t been so lucky. This is yet another example of why owners, managers, builders and inspectors must adhere to strict construction standards. SMB has represented catastrophically injured clients when buildings have collapsed including the Market Street collapse in 2013, the Surfside Condo collapse in Miami in 2021, and the Tropicana garage collapse in 2003 among others.
