$15 Million Jury Award to Woman Injured in Apartment Building Fall

A Philadelphia jury awarded $15 million to Patricia Thompson, who suffered life-altering injuries after falling down the stairs at her West Philadelphia apartment building.

At the time of the incident, Patricia, who was partially blind and managing multiple medical conditions, fell due to hazardous conditions in the building. The staircase lacked a handrail and proper lighting, both in violation of Philadelphia safety codes.

Following the fall, Patricia’s broken ankle required surgery, but complications arose when the surgical hardware became severely infected. Tragically, this led to the amputation of her lower leg to save her life.

After a five-day trial, the jury found the building’s owner and property manager responsible for their negligence, resulting in this significant verdict in Patricia’s favor.
