Florida Bus Crash Leaves Eight Dead, Dozens Injured
Eight people were killed and 40 were hospitalized after a bus crashed and overturned at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday in Florida, 45 miles south of Gainesville. Initial reports indicate that the bus was traveling west on State Road 40 when a Ford truck traveling in the opposite direction collided with the bus. According to Lt. Pat Riordan of the Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicles collided in a sideswipe type manner. The bus, which was carrying approximately 53 people, traveled off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Police have not disclosed the victims’ names.
