PFAS Water Contamination

Toxic “forever chemicals” known as PFAS have contaminated drinking water all over the country, affecting the water of tens of millions of people and causing serious injury to many who consumed it.

Back to All Practice Areas

SMB partner Larry Cohan has fought for decades on behalf of people hurt by the wrongdoing or negligence of companies whose chemicals contaminate our environment.

The water supply of over 100,000 residents within Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania was contaminated by polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as perflourinated chemicals (PFCs).

This group of dangerous forever chemicals includes PFOS and PFOA.

PFAS contamination affects the water quality for millions of Americans. We are committed to staying in the fight until we return local drinking water supplies to their clean and healthy original state.

Unmatched Experience

SMB represents people and municipal entities who have been harmed by PFAS, including:

  • Individuals who have suffered one of the below injuries and:
    • have received notice from their water provider that PFAS was detected in the water supply and/or
    • live or lived near a military base with known PFAS contamination, including the former Naval Air Bases in Warminster and Horsham, Pennsylvania.
  • Municipal water providers who have to remediate their water systems due to PFAS contamination

Led by partner Larry Cohan, SMB represents victims of PFAS exposure who are suffering from:

  • Kidney cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Thyroid disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Other serious medical conditions and cancers

We pursue claims against the manufacturers of PFAS chemicals.

Mr. Cohan serves on the executive committee for the class action lawsuit for medical monitoring on behalf of residents affected by PFAS contamination in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

In addition, Larry is one of a handful of attorneys appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the Federal Court AFFF/PFAS Multi-District Litigation (MDL) in South Carolina. This litigation includes thousands of lawsuits that were originally filed across the country against the 3M Company, Dupont, and other manufacturers seeking damages for the widespread harm caused by the use of PFAS in firefighting foam (AFFF).

Unmatched Compensation

As it has become clear that there is a probable link between PFAS exposure and kidney cancer, thyroid disease, testicular cancer, and ulcerative colitis, Mr. Cohan and his team have responded by fighting on behalf of people who have been injured, advocating for clean water for all of us, and ensuring the companies who polluted our water and sold dangerous products are held accountable.
