Robert J. Mongeluzzi, a Founder of
Saltz Mongeluzzi Barrett & Bendesky, is a driving force
in establishing the Firm's reputation as one of the leading
plaintiff litigation firms in the greater Philadelphia region.
He is widely regarded as among the nation's most skillful
and successful trial attorneys in handling complex cases
involving catastrophic
construction accidents, electrical
accidents, and products
liability.
A leader in the courtroom and in the legal community,
Mr. Mongeluzzi is consistently rated by his peers as at
the top of his profession; ranking second and third respectively
among all Pennsylvania lawyers in the 2005 and 2006 balloting
of more than 35,000 lawyers in a survey conducted by Superlawyers
and published in Philadelphia Magazine. He also frequently
appears in printed and electronic media as an expert on
workplace accidents and the law. A special episode of the
History Channel's program, Modern Marvels, features Mr.
Mongeluzzi in its reporting on the fatal collapse of the
Tropicana casino garage.
He is co-lead counsel in the case resulting from that tragedy.
He holds the record for the largest reported settlement
in Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas, a $75.6 million
jury verdict in a 2004 liquor liability trial. It is believed
to be the second largest personal injury verdict in Philadelphia
and Pennsylvania history.
In construction
site accident cases alone, more than 60 cases have resulted
in recoveries in excess of $1 million.
His passion and relentless commitment to preserving and
protecting the rights of working men and women is rooted
in his own family history. His grandfather and great grandfather,
both tradesmen, were seriously injured while working on
the job. Witnessing the consequences of having insufficient
legal resources, Mr. Mongeluzzi now devotes himself to giving
victims the voice and resources necessary to obtain justice
when pitted against major corporations and high-powered
defense law firms. His commitment extends well beyond the
firm and includes service on the Board of Directors of the
Phoenix Foundation, a leading advocate on behalf of burn
victims and their families.
Mr. Mongeluzzi is a 1978 graduate of the University of
Pennsylvania, and a 1981 graduate of the Fordham University
School of Law. His talent as a persuasive writer was demonstrated
as editor of the Law Review. A life long learner, he received
his master's degree cum laude in Trial Advocacy in 1994
from Temple University School of Law. He is admitted to
practice in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, and
in the United States District Courts for the Eastern District
of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey, and the Southern
District of New York. Mr. Mongeluzzi is also admitted to
practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the
Third Circuit.
As active in the legal community as in his daily practice,
Mr. Mongeluzzi is Founder and Chairman of the Association
of Trial Lawyers of America's Crane and Aerial Lift Litigation
Group and Electrical Accident Group. He serves on the Association's
Board of Governors and is a past President of the Philadelphia
Trial Lawyers Association. An avid educator, Mr. Mongeluzzi
takes every opportunity to train other lawyers in the handling
of construction accident litigation and appears regularly
at construction accident seminars.
Mr. Mongeluzzi is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Temple
University School of Law's LLM Program in Trial Advocacy.
