Update: Statement of Counsel for the Victims in Delaware River Duckboat Disaster (1)

Gyor, Hungary (July 20, 2010) – We have been meeting with the families of the victims. And they have repeatedly made clear to us from the time we arrived that we must make sure that what happened to their children (Dora Schwendtner, 16, and Szabolcs Prem, 20) – their only children – can never happen again; so other families can be spared the unspeakable loss they’ve suffered and the excruciating pain they are feeling.

We are gratified that the City of Philadelphia is now requiring a lookout so their barges are no longer operating blind on the Delaware River. We will soon begin to explore specifically why K-Sea Transportation failed to take this common sense, required precautions to prevent this foreseeable tragedy.
