PHILADELPHIA, PA (May 11, 2016) – Survivor Robert Robert Hewett, who suffered multiple fractures, a collapsed lung, and spent seven weeks in a medically induced coma as a result of the May 12, 2015 Amtrak Train 188 derailment, will participate in his first press conference tomorrow, the one-year anniversary of the tragedy. A security official for BASF, Mr. Hewett, 58, was texting his wife – who will be by his side tomorrow – about possible vacation destinations when the derailment occurred. A resident of northern New Jersey, Mr. Hewett has been a staunch advocate of enhanced passenger rail safety systems, and successfully fought to increase the federal cap on personal injury damages claims due to Amtrak negligence.
