Simon Bahne Paris is the chair of the firm's
Class Action Practice Group. Representing businesses and consumers
in complex class actions, he focuses on antitrust and consumer
protection cases throughout the United States.
Consistently recognized by his peers for his novel approach to
identifying and challenging improper business practices, Mr. Paris
has secured settlements in the tens and even hundreds of millions
of dollars for the classes of businesses and consumers that he and
the firm's Class Action Practice Group represent. He has achieved
100 percent recoveries for all affected class members in numerous
consumer fraud cases.
Mr. Paris' recent successes include:
In re OSB Antitrust Litigation (E.D. Pa.) where he was the first
to uncover a conspiracy to fix prices amongst the largest producers
of oriented strand board in the United States, which resulted in
settlements of over $120 million. Mr. Paris also served among lead
class counsel in In re Mercedes-Benz Antitrust Litigation (D. NJ.)
(over $17 million settlement) and In re Linerboard Antitrust
Litigation (E.D. Pa.) ($202.5 million settlement).
Mr. Paris has also been involved in the successful prosecution
of numerous securities matters, including In re Abbott Laboratories
Derivative Litigation (N.D. III.) (settlement valued at $84
million) and In re VeriSign Securities Litigation (N.D. Cal.)
(settlement of approximately $78 million).
Mr. Paris currently serves a leading or integral role in the
prosecution of the following antitrust cases:
St. Barnabas Hospital, Inc. et al. v. Ovation Pharmaceuticals,
Inc., et al. Civ. Action No. 09-1375 (D. Minn); In re Steel
Antitrust Litigation, Civ. Action No. 08-5214 (N.D. III.); In re
Aftermarket Filters Antitrust Litig., MDL Docket No. 1957 (N.D.
III.); and In re Urethane Antitrust Litig., MDL Docket No. 1616 (D.
Kan.) ($55 million partial settlement), among others.
Mr. Paris is also currently leading the following consumer
protection class action, Martinelli v. Petland, Inc., et al. Civ.
Action No. 09-529 (D. AZ), among others.
Education, Training and Experience
Mr. Paris is a graduate of Rutgers University and holds a J.D.
law degree from the Widener University School of Law (1996). Before
joining Saltz Mongeluzzi Barrett & Bendesky, Mr. Paris served
as an assistant state attorney for the State of Florida, where he
was lead trial counsel in more than 50 jury trials.
