Larry Bendesky, the Managing Shareholder of Saltz, Mongeluzzi, Barrett & Bendesky, P.C., focuses his practice on complex civil product liability cases and catastrophic construction accident cases in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. As a product liability attorney, he has successfully handled cases involving the design, maintenance and operation of elevators, escalators, motor vehicles, motorcycles, power tools, recreational products, and a wide array of equipment used in industry and manufacturing.  As a construction accident lawyer, he has brought cases against construction companies, architects and engineers for inadequate protection, improper scaffolding, electrical hazards, unsafe demolition, and improper design and construction leading to collapses.

A skilled trial lawyer, Mr. Bendesky has been counsel in more than 100 cases that have resulted in verdicts or settlements over $1 million for Saltz Mongeluzzi Barrett & Bendesky clients, including many results in excess of $10 million.  He was on the litigation trial team in the Tropicana Garage case that settled for $101 million, at the time the largest settlement of a construction case in U.S. history.  Some of his other cases are:

  • $4 million settlement during trial for 2 police officers who fell down an elevator shaft
  • $4.7 million for a man whose fingers were amputated in paper process rollers;
  • $6.35 million for a surveyor hit by a truck on a construction site;
  • 8 figure resolution for 8 clients injured in escalator  failure;
  • $7.5 million for a lighting inspector who fell through a glass floor at the Rodin Museum;
  • $8.3 million jury verdict for client struck by a utility pole;
  • $8.5 million for a roofer who fell 40 feet;
  • $12.5 million for a roofer who fell backwards off of a roof;
  • $13 million for a crane operator whose leg was amputated by a steel beam that had fallen over;
  • $14.7 million  for a roofer whose skull was crushed by a falling hoist.

 

Honors

Mr. Bendesky is considered one of Pennsylvania's best product liability and construction accident attorneys. He has been a member of Philadelphia Magazine's peer-selected, Super Lawyers of Pennsylvania every year since he became eligible in 2004.  On numerous occasions, including the last 3 year consecutive years, the same publication named him one of the 100 best lawyers in both Philadelphia and in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Bendesky also has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America by Best Lawyers®, the U.S. legal profession's oldest peer-review publication, every year for the past 6 years

 

Education, Training and Experience

Mr. Bendesky is an Honors graduate of Pennsylvania State University and holds a law degree from the Delaware School or Law of Widener University (1987). He is also a graduate of the nationally ranked LL.M. (Master's of Law) in Trial Advocacy program at the Temple University Beasley School of Law. Based on his outstanding courtroom performance, he received the Faculty Award as his class's outstanding student/lawyer. He is now an Adjunct Professor of Law with the Temple Master's of Law program and Co-Director of its Experts and Deposition Program.  He also serves as a Judge Pro Tempore, or temporary judge, for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, where he has been recognized for exceptional service.

Mr. Bendesky has lectured lawyers, judges and other professional groups more than 65 times on trial techniques, depositions, cross-examination, evidence and the latest developments in product liability and construction litigation.

 

Appeals Experience

Mr. Bendesky laid the foundation for his appeals court experience by serving as Chief Clerk to the Honorable James R. Melinson of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. Relying upon that expertise, in 2008 the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania appointed him to its Appellate Rules Committee, where he served until 2014.
